Industry Background

The medical device and diagnostics industry is estimated to be worth over $70 billion per year on a global sales basis. The company will implement a targeted strategy to develop a line of onSkin™ mobile and compact skin cancer scanners, which will harness the potential benefits of terahertz imaging technology.  If technological development is successful, these potential benefits include cost efficiency and wide range imaging capability for relatively detailed and rapid tissue analysis. Eventually, the product platform can be expanded to provide detection of other types of cancers. Over time, applications in selected pharmaceutical and industrial markets will also be considered.

The market opportunity to establish specific product applications using THz as the technological platform is now being recognized as a key strategic initiative for Governments (e.g. USA, UK, China), institutions (e.g. Leading Universities and Technology Institutes), and industry leaders (e.g. Toshiba, Northrop). Although applications across industries are vast, our Company has chosen to focus on medical and pharmaceutical applications within the Medical and Wellness Lifestyle industries.  Demographically, the timing to introduce a new technology that will aid in increasing medical imaging, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical industry efficiencies has never been better.  As the average age of the population increases, so does the demand for next generation technologies that will aid in cancer pre-screening, managing medical conditions resulting from aging, and providing better quality assurance within the pharmaceutical industry.
