T-Rays (TeraHertz Radiation)

T-Ray Science (the “Company”) seeks to harness the power of TeraHertz (THz) radiation, or T-Rays, for applications in the Pharmaceutical, Medical and Wellness Lifestyle industries.  TeraHertz radiation is a non-ionizing form of radiation that lies between the infrared and microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum.  It is defined in the frequency range of 100 GHz to 10 THz (1 THz = 1012 Hz).

Terahertz Spectrum

This range is of particular interest to T-Ray Science because it excites the intermolecular vibrational and librational modes of molecules. The ability of THz to probe intermolecular interactions enables it to provide both structural and functional information, which makes it a unique spectroscopic tool for medical and pharmaceutical applications.

TeraHertz radiation is a safe, accurate, and economical alternative to other scanning methods such as high frequency ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and near-infrared imaging.  This emergent technology has the potential to revolutionize the way many diseases are diagnosed, and ultimately cured.

Using ultra-fast integrated photonic circuits in an array configuration, T-Ray Science has developed sensitive, high power, dual-mode Pulsed and Continuous Wave TeraHertz Sources and Detectors.  These sources and detectors are available for use separately, or within our proprietary THz spectrometer and imager system.  Our dual-mode THz spectrometer has the capability of conducting both time and frequency domain measurements.  Using this technology, a compact system prototype for drug monitoring and biological tissue analysis will soon be developed.  The developed system may be used to perform highly sensitive spectroscopy measurements on materials both organic (e.g. biological samples, drugs) and inorganic (e.g. gases, polymers, etc.) in nature.  The system will also be used to perform diagnostic imaging tests on cancerous tissue, as well as on drug monitoring applications..
